Let us compare two very popular compact sedans, the 2018 Hyundai Elantra and the new 2018 Toyota Corolla, presented by Longueuil Toyota, the Toyota dealership of the South Shore of Montreal, located in Longueuil near Ste-Julie and Brossard.
If the 2018 Hyundai Elantra is assembled in Montgomery, Alabama, and in Ulsan, in South Korea, the 2018 Toyota Corolla is assembled in Canada at the Toyota Canada plant in Cambridge, Ontario. The 2018 Elantra is equipped with a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission while the new 2018 Corolla is fitted with a Continuously Variable Transmission with Intelligent Shift (CVTi-S).
The powertrains and performances of these two sedans are quite similar. The 2018 Elantra and 2018 Corolla are fitted with a 4-cylinder engine, respectively with 2 litres and 1.8 litre, which develop comparable power. Their fuel consumptions are close, both with a rating of 8.3 L/100 km in the city, and respective combined city and highway economy ratings of 7.4 L/100 km and 7.5 L/100 km.
On the other hand, the differences are more pronounced when it comes to the safety and driver assist features. For example, while the 2018 Elantra only has 7 airbags, the 2018 Corolla has 8 and its front seats, unlike those of the 2018 Elantra, provide protection against whiplash injuries. Even more, while all features of the Safety Sense P system come standard on all models of the 2018 Corolla, technologies such as the pre-collision system, lane departure alert and dynamic radar cruise control are only optional on the 2018 Elantra.
The 2018 Toyota Corolla, to see at Longueuil Toyota, the Toyota dealership located in Longueuil, near Ste-Julie and Brossard on the South Shore of Montreal, also comes with the Star Safety System, which includes the Anti-Lock Brake System, Brake Assis, Smart Stop Technology, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Electronic Brake Force Distribution.
It is worth emphasizing that the Car Guide assigned its highest reliability rating to the 2018 Toyota Corolla, which is 10/10.
